At my job we got the request to think about the restyling of a Turkish bar and nightclub. The client wanted to change his way of business and change his clientele. The big problem was that he didn’t give us a budget. Strange, but true. Different requests to do so were all neglected. Still the idea of restyling a nightclub was appealing and I was asked to do the job.
The club needed ample sitting room, a small stage and a bar. An interview with the owner revealed that he would also like a more private seating area. The final design focusses on the use of relatively cheap materials and on middle-eastern atmosphere. We’ve used patterned translucent wallpadding to create atmospheric lighting and used warm an bright colors to create a happy Mediterranean look and feel. In the middle of the space we’ve wrapped a seating cocoon around the structural column. The cocoon is like a candy, hard on the outside and soft inside. It will reduce the noise level and facilitate more private conversations, while giving an optional look on the “outside” world by video.
When we presented our ideas to the client, he was stunned, but in the end he chickened out, saying it was too expensive and too innovative for him.
